Strawberries and Fascism
Greetings, moon watchers and truth-seekers!
The full moon reaches peak illumination tonight at 12:44 AM PT on June 11, in the sign of Sagittarius. Full moons occur when the Sun and Moon line up in opposite signs with the Earth directly in between. (The Sun is now in Gemini through the 19th.)
June’s full moon is traditionally called the "Strawberry Moon" or "Berries Ripen Moon" by the indigenous Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, Lakota, and Haida peoples. Other names for the June full moon include the Cherokee "Green Corn Moon," the Tlingit "Birth Moon," and the Anishinaabe "Blooming Moon." Across the Northern Hemisphere, this moon marks the season for flowering, ripening, and growth.
Yesterday, on June 9, Jupiter — planet of expansion and magnification — entered the sign of Cancer, where it remains for the next year. For all of us, Jupiter's energy now amplifies themes relating to home, belonging, and security. As the ruling planet of Sagittarius, Jupiter’s imbues this full moon with optimism, and distinct longing for freedom and meaning. How can we honor that spirit and carry it forward in our own lives?
Here in the US, under this freedom-seeking moon, we are witnessing escalating deportation programs and the militarization of communities like Los Angeles, aimed at displacing people from their homes. These are hallmarks of Fascism — a far-right ideology characterized by nationalism, authoritarianism, and militarism. Fascism, like strawberries, is now in season.
Full moons are both activating and revealing. In addition to restless sleep and heightened emotions, many people experience new insights during this time.
So, consider:
- What truth is coming into focus for you?
- What calls you to act, resist, or speak out?
- What does freedom mean to you — and what responsibilities does it bring?
As we approach June 14, 2025 — the birthday of the current US President — the time is right to speak up, show up, or lend a hand.
