Listening for the Beat Drop

Yesterday we experienced a super Full Moon as the Moon neared its closest position in its elliptical orbit around the Earth. This convergence was underscored by a second close approach – that of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, known as a perihelion. This rare event won’t repeat again until 2045. The last time we experienced a similar convergence was in 1912. Together, these conditions create a recipe for exceptionally high tides, known as “king tides.” If you’re feeling simultaneously pressurized and unmoored, this might be why.

Astrologically speaking, we’re in a watery, third-trimester-like gestational period. Something new is ready to be born, but there is little support for forward momentum at this moment. With a single exception, all of the planets in our solar system are now in water or earth signs. The Sun, currently transiting earth sign Capricorn, is joined by our three lead-singer planets – Venus, Mars, and Mercury. The Moon and Jupiter form a compelling bass counterweight in watery Cancer. Freedom-seeking Uranus adds percussive energy in earthy Taurus, while Neptune and Saturn in watery Pisces sing of dreams slowly being made physical.

Without the support of planets in fire or air signs, it can feel like we’re listening for a beat drop before it happens. But it is coming. Pluto – demoted as a planet by astronomers, but still the primary astrological force associated with wholesale transformation – has entered visionary air sign Aquarius. And once Saturn and Neptune move into fire sign Aries toward the end of next month, the Year of the Fire Horse will begin to unfold. In numerology, 2026 is both a 10 year and a 1 year (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 = 1). It is a year in which initiation necessitates integration.

In sacred geometry terms:
10 = the completed circle
1 = the new point at the center of the next spiral

We don’t leap forward. We re-center – and organic forward movement becomes possible.

These are alchemical times. In medieval esoteric traditions, evolution was framed as a repeating process: solve et coagula – Latin for dissolve and re-form. Water dissolves. Earth coagulates. Our work now is twofold: embodiment and feeling. If you’re feeling anxious or frustrated, turn your attention to your breath. Without trying to control it, simply observe its movement in and out of your body. If the mind needs something to do, let it narrate: "breathing in, releasing out".

Before the fire returns and momentum builds, we are asked to inhabit what is already here – to be present with what is, and to notice what is quietly reorganizing beneath the surface. What happens when we stop trying to force movement and simply pay attention to what is already unfolding?
